ACE is proud to partner with the Every Body Walk! Collaborative to promote the March theme, “Walk the Stairs: For an Active and Walkable Lifestyle.”
ACE strongly supports walking and walkable communities as part of our commitment to fight the dual epidemics of obesity and inactivity, and to create a culture of health that values physically active lifestyles.
Our support for “Walk the Stairs” is the next step in a series of activities to promote walking and walkability. Here’s a look at the progress we’ve already made:
- Released a statement in September, 2015, in support of “Step it Up! The Surgeon General’s Call to Action to Promote Walking & Walkable Communities.”
- Sponsored the 2nd National Walking Summit in Washington, DC, which convened hundreds of community leaders to advance the cause of walking and walkability.
- Released two walking toolkits at the National Walking Summit in support of the Surgeon General’s Call to Action: “Walk This Way! A Guide for Developing Community and Individual Walking Programs,” designed to help each American “Step It Up!” and increase their physical activity through walking; and “Walk the Talk! A Fitness Professional’s Guide to Developing Walking Programs,” designed to help fitness professionals “Step It Up!” and lead safe and effective walking programs and become advocates for more walkable communities.
During the month of March, ACE will encourage everyone to “Walk the Stairs” through a series of social media posts and sharable content.
