At a time when only 24% of the adult U.S. population gets the recommended amount of physical activity, ACE believes that behavior-change coaching is the link to long-term change in that trend line.

We know that adults recognize the value in physical activity, but they often do not know how to get started with a more physically active lifestyle. Behavior-change coaching is the missing link between people who want to be physically active, and people being physically active. This is why ACE is dedicated to educating and training exercise professionals and health coaches in the latest evidence-based behavior-change strategies. With more trained professionals equipped to guide adults to healthier lifestyle choices, the more we will be able to help in the fight to lower incidences of chronic diseases.

Based on a recent Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), less than a quarter of adults get enough physical activity. The report analyzes the physical-activity trends of adults in both rural and urban settings, and highlights the importance of ACE’s mission to get people moving. Though findings reveal that ACE and other physical activity promoters are helping move the needle to increase physical activity among urban residents (19% in 2008 to 25% in 2017) and rural residents (13% in 2008 to 20% in 2017), adults are still not as active as they should be. Behavior-change coaching from certified professionals will help, and ACE is leading the way.
