Anatomy and Kinesiology of the Lower Body
February 23, 2011 | 4:00-6:00 p.m. PST | 0.2 CECs | $39.95
Course Description
Movement efficiency in the lower body requires an integrated relationship between stability and mobility within the hip, knee, ankle and foot joints. Muscle imbalance alters key physiological, neurological and mechanical properties leading to musculoskeletal overload, overuse and potential injury. In this live webinar hosted by ACE exercise physiologist Pete McCall, discover how effective programming for lower-body movements (e.g., squat/bend-and-lift and single-leg actions) necessitates a comprehensive understanding of the stability-mobility relationship, a detail often overlooked by fitness professionals. This webinar briefly reviews the kinesiology of the lower body and stability-mobility requirements of each major joint, in addition to providing a programming template to promote the movement efficiency and coordination of the lower body.
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Explain relevant biomechanical principles associated with movement of the hips, knees and feet.
- Describe the respective need for stability and mobility in the hips, knees, ankles and feet.
- Define the integrated roles of each joint in movement.
- Identify movement compensations and identify restorative exercises for mobility and stability.
- Design exercise and movements with both progressions and regressions to promote stability and mobility within the lower extremity.
