2010 has been an exciting year for the American Council on Exercise as we celebrate our 25th anniversary as America’s trusted authority on fitness. Important issues surrounding health and wellness have been on the forefront of the national conversation this year, providing ACE with many opportunities to share our mission for creating a more fit America. From policy to programs, the challenge to increase physical activity within our country has been made abundantly clear, and ACE has continued to support this call to action through premier educational programming, groundbreaking research and influential collaborations and initiatives that continue to help shape the direction of the fitness industry.
With heightened consumer awareness of the benefits of improved health and fitness, ACE has advanced the national conversation, forging key alliances with other organizations through our collaboration on industry efforts. In 2010, ACE supported the National Coalition for Promoting Physical Activity’s launch of the National Physical Activity Plan, a sweeping initiative to improve public health by motivating people to become and stay physically active, and to remove the barriers that stand in their way. ACE has extended our reach to the general public through the launch of ACE Get Fit™, a free consumer-focused online resource designed to inform, inspire, educate and motivate people to lead active and healthy lifestyles by offering credible exercise information, workouts, healthy recipes, fitness facts and product reviews. This new initiative also features our university-based independent research that examines fitness products, programs and trends. From exergaming and kettlebells to Kranking, we have commissioned quality research to test the efficacy of a variety of well-known fitness tools and programs. As America’s Workout Watchdog™, these studies set ACE Get Fit™ apart from other health and fitness sites and reinforce our reputation as a stalwart consumer advocate dedicated to maintaining integrity and safety in the health and fitness industry.
With childhood obesity rates on the rise, youth fitness and programming has been a major focus at ACE. Through our Operation FitKids® initiative, free curricula has been designed for educators, fitness professionals, health professionals and parents looking to integrate health and fitness lessons into the lives of children. We are also supporting Henkel, a global business leader and the company behind some of the nation’s leading consumer brands, on a program called “Henkel Helps Get Kids Fit,” a nationwide campaign to promote youth fitness.
Our involvement in physical activity–based causes has solidified the foundation of our organizational initiatives. From being the endorsed provider of fitness professional services for AARP members, to promoting exercise safety through the delivery of the American Heart Association’s Heartsaver First Aid with CPR and AED Workshops, our collaborative efforts with leading organizations are designed to ensure that ACE professionals have the resources they need to provide safe and effective fitness training and information to the consumer.
With the tremendous support and significant contribution of our outstanding certified professionals, ACE has established itself as a highly regarded health and fitness leader that the industry and consumers alike trust as their source for high-quality, safe and effective education and information. As we look forward to our next 25 years of excellence, ACE remains committed to maintaining the highest level of health and fitness standards, and continuing to lead the industry and the nation in fitness-focused initiatives.
