Sneak Peek: 2011 ACE Fitness Symposium

Save the date! The 6th annual American Council on Exercise (ACE) Fitness Symposium is returning to San Diego, California November 2–5, 2011. This year’s event will take place at a new venue, the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina, and will include pre-conference workshops, workouts, a vendor showroom, abundant networking events and an exciting lineup of speakers and educational sessions providing new opportunities for fitness professionals to connect at the local and national levels, as well as the latest in sports conditioning, nutrition, functional training, youth fitness, lifestyle coaching, special populations, group fitness, the business of personal training and more.

Attendees can choose to attend one of the three pre-conference workshops held Tuesday, November 2, including the ACE Functional Training Workshop, ACE Sports Conditioning Workshop and the AHA Heartsaver with First Aid, CPR and AED Workshop. Also on that day, a special Fitness Industry Summit will be held for continuing education providers and club owners and managers.

Additional highlights unfolding for this year’s Symposium include:

• Noted fitness industry consultant and highly sought-after presenter Thomas Plummer will join us on Thursday, November 3, as a keynote speaker. Known for his lively delivery and actionable, affordable advice, Plummer will present what it takes to create a high-quality client experience that enables you to stand out from the crowd and achieve success.

• Dr. Pamela Peeke, Chief Medical Correspondent for Discovery Health TV [Ed Note: I think this network is gone and is now OWN—Oprah’s channel.], will present Girth of a Nation: Waistlines and Wellness on Friday, November 4. As advisor to Surgeon General Dr. Regina Benjamin, Dr. Peeke is creating national campaigns to address the American epidemic of sedentary lifestyles, obesity and overall lack of fitness for survival. Dr. Peeke explores the exciting and challenging opportunities for consumers, private industry and public policy makers to enhance wellness in the home, the worksite and on Capitol Hill. Dr. Peeke will also lead a Fitness Walk along the bay earlier the same day.  

• We are excited to wrap up our event on Saturday, November 5, with keynote speaker Dr. Tom House. In addition to being former Major League Baseball player and one of the world’s foremost authorities on pitching, House is an author, international consultant, performance analyst and sports psychologist. House’s personal mission is to inform, instruct and inspire people to improve their performance, and he travels the world researching the best protocols and products to help individuals improve their quality of life.
