Training in Water to Thrive on Land

Human beings have an undeniable connection to water. Our bodies are largely composed of water, and consuming it is essential to our survival. The connection we have to water can also spill over into physical activity. Many people swim because it’s a low-impact way to stay fit. Older adults have undoubtedly benefitted from water aerobics—another low-impact form of fitness. But there is so much more we can achieve with water-based fitness, far beyond simple cardiovascular exercise.

The WaterFit® Shallow Water Interval Training course will teach you how to bring highly-effective, scientifically-backed interval training to clients of any age and fitness level. Internationally renowned and proven to be effective by 12 peer-reviewed scientific papers, WaterFit® improves cardiovascular and muscular endurance as well as agility and balance to help people execute daily activities at a higher functionality.

Led by Mary E. Sanders, PhD—a clinical exercise physiologist, certified diabetes educator, fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and international director of WaterFit®—this course details how to apply the S.W.E.A.T.™ Method, which encompasses simple cuing skills that combine five core dance movements, to the unique properties of water and skills used in swimming. This approach allows health and fitness professionals to respond “on the fly” to the needs of their participants and create individualized experiences without having to memorize choreography. After completing the course, you’ll be able to offer your clients, regardless of age, a unique blend of “surf and turf” fitness that will excite them in the water—and improve their fitness on land.

You will learn:

  • To apply science to practice by learning the S.W.E.A.T.™ system of cuing to create balanced exercises, progressions and individualized intervals—including HIIT training in shallow water.
  • To identify 32 fitness sports-themed exercise progressions that can be coached using the WaterFit® S.W.E.A.T.™ system.
  • How to format workouts that apply the system cues for older adults to younger clients.
  • To lead safe and effective exercises in shallow water that broaden fitness options for your clients, so they can achieve their individual health and fitness goals.

I would truly recommend this to other Aquatic Trainers

navigation was a bit awkward when downloading and tracking the progression through the articles

The one-hour long video was helpful in order to visualize the different moves, but everything else was just PDFs to download and read on my own. I could have done that with a Google search for free rather than spend over $60 on class. Also, the quiz at the end had questions that appeared to refer to things that were not exactly clear, such as a "study" or a certain move. Overall, I am not satisfied with this training.

This was very interesting and informative.
