The American Council on Exercise (ACE) is proud to have been a founding member of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine’s Roundtable on Obesity Solutions, which was founded in 2014 to bring together diverse sectors and voices to explore issues related to obesity, with a goal of reducing the impact of obesity and applying equity-based strategies to address obesity-related disparities.

ACE joined the Roundtable to collaborate with like-minded organizations as we worked to address the urgent and growing issue of obesity in the United States. “This collaboration aligns with and supports ACE's commitment to delivering science-based programs and interventions that integrate appropriately into healthcare and public health systems,” explains Cedric X. Bryant, PhD, FACSM, President and Chief Executive Officer of the American Council on Exercise. “By participating in the Roundtable, ACE aims to contribute to a multifaceted dialogue involving diverse stakeholders, including public health, healthcare, industry, government, philanthropy and academia, to foster progress in obesity prevention and treatment.”

This involvement also aligns with ACE's broader mission to promote safe and effective exercise practices and behavior-change education, aiming to equip exercise professionals and health coaches with the tools to help individuals adopt and sustain healthier lifestyles.

The Roundtable will be celebrating its 10th anniversary with an online public symposium on July 24th to “explore and reflect on the major developments toward prevention, treatment, and management of obesity, and how the Roundtable on Obesity Solutions has contributed to those developments.” The agenda for this event, which is open to the general public (you can register at the link above), includes a retrospective look at what the Roundtable has accomplished in its first decade of work, as well as an exploration of new perspectives and emerging opportunities.

ACE looks forward to the ongoing work of the Roundtable, which is only one element of ACE’s commitment not only to advance the careers of individual health coaches and exercise professionals, but also to develop the credibility and standing of the fitness industry as a whole
