About the Davises
The IDEA World Convention Scholarship Program was established by Kathie and Peter Davis in 2018 and is administered by ACE. The program recognizes the exceptional work of exercise professionals and health coaches who are making a difference in their communities. Scholarship awards include event registration, travel, boarding, and meal stipend during the Convention.
"We are honored to continue supporting exercise professionals who help communities become more physically active," said Kathie Davis, former executive director for IDEA. "The initial purpose of IDEA was to 'Inspire the World to Fitness,' and the IDEA World Convention Scholarship Program in partnership with ACE helps take that inspiration to the next level — by recognizing and supporting those who are making positive changes in our communities."
In 1982, Peter and Kathie Davis co-founded IDEA Health & Fitness Association, providing fitness professionals with the industry's best professional tools and resources. The couple started IDEA on the strength of one basic premise: that by fostering professionalism in the health and fitness industry, millions of people around the world could live happier, healthier lives. Kathie served as IDEA's executive director and Peter as its CEO for about 34 years.
After establishing IDEA, the Davises founded the first formal professional fitness certification organization in 1985, the IDEA Foundation, now known as the American Council on Exercise (ACE).
The Davis' vision for developing innovative continuing education has significantly contributed to the maturation of the fitness industry into a growing, thriving field. Their leadership led to the establishment of the largest annual international fitness education event, IDEA World Convention, which annually draws over 15,000 fitness professionals from 60 countries to garner the tools they need to change millions of lives around the planet.
